Job Summary

UCSF Health & BCH has embarked upon a multi-year $450 million value improvement strategy designed to increase access, improve patient care, and lower costs by improving our processes, systems, and asset utilization. The Program Manager will provide leadership, oversight, and facilitation of the overall value improvement strategy. This position works closely with frontline staff, senior leaders, and departments to implement a diverse portfolio of value improvement projects and provides dedicated project management support to initiatives as needed. This position also analyzes and prepares recommendations for value improvement planning, including resource allocations, future requirements, and operating forecasts.

This position provides programmatic, analytical, and administrative oversight for the Value Improvement program, including the coordination of communications and pertinent data.  Applies extensive knowledge of industry practices in healthcare decision support and advanced professional concepts to substantial projects, typically at high degrees of complexity. This position brings excellent organizational skills to drive the daily execution of the value improvement program. In this customer-facing role, this leader must establish a strong working relationship with customers (e.g. physicians, health system departments, and leaders) and partners (finance, IT, HR), clearly understanding their goals and requirements to facilitate the optimum deployment solutions while keeping priorities and resource constraints in mind. The position represents BCH Value Improvement in all interactions with physicians, staff, and all levels of management within UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Campus, & Faculty Practice, as well as with outside agencies. The role will support complex projects, requiring a high level of initiative and attention to detail in execution and implementation. Collaborates with leaders during the annual operating budget process to scope, plan, and forecast potential projects. This individual must be an independent problem solver and be able to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.

Department Description

The Benioff Children’s Hospitals (BCH) Operational Excellence Team supports the critical operational functions and priorities of the BCH enterprise. The team works with key operational stakeholders to support the development of strategic and financial goals that support the improvement of operational efficiency, productivity, and financial strength for the organization


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of relevant experience.
  • Five years or more of experience in program management
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently gather relevant data from stakeholders and perform analyses. 
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally.
  • Skills in project management and process re-design/re-engineering.  
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments and overlapping deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels and function as a member of a team.
  • Appropriate and relevant leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to professional and support staff in the areas of value measurement and improvement.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to use a high level of discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Note: This position is based in San Francisco and one may need to work onsite and work irregular work schedule when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in data science, statistics, analytics, finance, or health care administration. 
  • Knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Lean experience working in a Healthcare system.
  • Lean or Lean Six Sigma Certification.
  • Project Management Professional Certification.
