Job Description:

The University at Albany is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Operations Specialist. The role works with the Assistant Dean for Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services (DAISS), providing direct services to students with disabilities. The specialist ensures that eligible students receive appropriate accommodation in the DAISS Testing Center, manages the receipt, preparation, distribution, collection, and return of exams, supervises Testing Center student and para-professional staff, manages, and advises on assistive technology and digital platforms (for DAISS and the campus at-large), collaborates with appropriate campus units to improve campus accessibility, and serves as the University's Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Compliance Officer.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily operations of the DAISS Office:
  • Monitor and reply to the DAISS Testing email inbox.
  • Respond to phone inquiries from students and their support network.
  • Participate in Division/office assessment activities and training.
  • Manages the daily operations of the DAISS Testing Center and its staff:
  • Coordinate testing accommodation services for DAISS students.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student employees.
  • Coordinate alternative media.
  • Manages and advises on DAISS platforms and technology.
  • Serve as the University's Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Compliance Officer to ensure website accessibility levels are maintained.
  • Develop, update, and enforce a university-wide plan to build and maintain accessible electronic environments.
  • Devise EITA policy and coordinate necessary support activities.
  • Provide guidance on technical standards and establish protocols for new and existing content and technologies, accessible technology acquisitions, and methods for training relevant campus constituents.
  • Promote the UAlbany EITA Plan and regularly evaluate, modify, and strengthen the plan over time.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent demonstrates commitment and sensitivity to how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) impact attaining institutional, divisional, and departmental goals and objectives.
  • The incumbent exhibits knowledge/understanding of strategies, skills, and best practices for establishing an inclusive community.
  • Upholds the guiding principles of the EITA role include:
  • Promoting a more inclusive and welcoming digital environment, particularly for individuals with disabilities.
  • Enabling UAlbany to address EIT accessibility barriers.
  • Empowering students with disabilities to persist and complete their educational goals due to an accessible EIT infrastructure.
  • Reducing institutional exposure to legal risks; and
  • Leveraging the power of UAlbany to influence third-party vendors to conform to technical accessibility standards.
  • Participates in Division/office assessment activities and training.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Two years working at an institution of higher education or an equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft suite of programs and ability to easily adapt to and work with new software and technology.
  • Computer and other technology skills, particularly software and applications that assist individuals with disabilities.
  • In depth and demonstrated knowledge of developing, regularly evaluating, modifying, maintaining, and strengthening an accessible electronic environment for campus community members with disabilities utilizing the University's website.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate students - recruiting, hiring, training, and providing guidance or where appropriate providing developmental review.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to education, psychology, or social services.
