Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Office of Information Technology is currently searching for candidates for a Senior and Network Engineers. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Network Operations, Network Engineers are responsible for analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and support of communications infrastructure for the University’s campuses including offsite locations, which includes copper and fiber wired and wireless networks facilitating data, voice, and video. The network infrastructure includes, but is not limited to routers, switches, access points, firewalls, and other network traffic engineering equipment as well as servers and software which provide core network services and functionality.

The Senior Network Engineer works to design and improve the network to meet all defined network requirements and other security-related requirements.  The position is responsible for developing and maintaining "best practices" procedures and policies for use in the network operations group. The individual creates and implements network security design and systems integration.  The position configures Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s) and data communications equipment. The position monitors intrusion detection/prevention systems logs and data encryption of network. The position manages assigned projects and supervises work of assistant/network engineers and graduate students.

The individual implements network security design.  The position maintains Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s) and data communications equipment. The position manages assigned projects, provides guidance to those in the Network Engineer role and supervises work of student workers. 

Required Qualifications

Senior Network Engineer:

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR

Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience

Related Experience: Network operations and/or system administration including TCP/IP, router and switch management and administration or related experience.

Network Engineer:

Associate’s Degree and five (5) years of related work experience OR

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR

Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related Experience: Network operations and/or system administration or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent.

Network Engineer - Administrative Faculty B

Schedule or Travel Requirements

• Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

• Work outside typical hours is required

Department Information

Office of Information Technology department provides computing, software, and communications support services to students, faculty, and staff throughout the University. 

The department manages and supports software development, applications support and data warehousing, network services, and server support and management. The goal of the organization is to assist departments and colleges in automating any administrative or academic process within the University that can benefit from automation and thereby improve the efficiency and accuracy of University operations.
