Georgetown’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) was founded in 1981 and is recognized as a leader in educational exchange programs for people around the world ranging from youth to senior business and public policy officials.

Job Overview

The Learning and Development (L&D) Consultant supports professional development programs within Georgetown University’s CIED grant with USDOS, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), and English Language Programs (ELP). They provide consulting and project management services related to the planning, design, production, and moderation of professional development opportunities for the ECA-funded ELP, including but not limited to the Specialist Master Class, the Training of Trainers course, and orientations for participants.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plans and designs online and in-person courses for the English Language Programs community in close collaboration with DOS and GU stakeholders
  • Supports development of course videos and materials, including editing, transcription, captioning, etc.
  • Facilitates and/or moderates in-person workshops or live online sessions in conjunction with the ELP team and subject-matter experts
  • Coordinates aspects of the technical production of the courses, keeping abreast of platform and software updates and suggesting ways to maximize effectiveness – these digital systems include but are not limited to ELP’s online Community of Practice, Zoom, and LearnDash
  • Designs and manages aspects of participant engagement in courses and course-related activities, including calls for participation, registration, attendance, certificates, and troubleshooting
  • Provides graphics support for the program using platforms – for example, Canva and Adobe products, such as InDesign/Premiere Pro/Illustrator
  • Supports program data management, including collecting, analytics, and reporting
  • Stays up-to-date on trends and issues in the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) field to ensure content remains current and relevant

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The supervisory organization English Language Programs (ELP)-Learning and Development works closely with the L&D Consultants to provide support and feedback on an ongoing basis involving regular meetings and discussions.

This L&D Consultant reports to the ELP Learning and Development team, including the ELP L&D Manager and the E&D Coordinator.

This position has been designated as Telework. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or related field
  • 2 to 3 years related experience
  • Experience with curriculum design and online course development, preferably using an LMS platform, such as LearnDash
  • Knowledge of digital technology platforms for the purposes of managing online communities
  • Outstanding interpersonal communications skills with the ability to understand, synthesize and conceptualize input and requests from multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent writing and editing
  • Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent data management skills, including reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software applications, Canva and Adobe products for design and video production

Preferred Qualifications

  • Alumnus or alumna of the U.S. Department of State English Language Fellow, Specialist, or Virtual Educator Programs
  • Experience working with federally funded exchange programs and/or educational programs,
  • Experience living and working overseas

The expected pay range for this position is $17.00 per hour to $50.00 per hour.
