Job Summary

As the Lead Strategic Data Manager you will lead the design and implementation of assessment systems for the College of Science.  

You will work with the senior leaders of the college and its seven departments to plan complex data analysis projects, and set standards for data collection and reporting for strategic decision-making.  This position will develop strategies to enhance external and internal reputational factors for the College and its faculty.  Develop and provide routine reports based on financial, enrollment, and HR data to guide the various functions within College of Science administration. You will lead a team consisting of Data Analyst and several student workers.  You will provide staff within the College with data reporting in support of their operational needs.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data analytics, computer science, business, social science, or closely related field
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in data analysis and/or data visualization, including extracting and validating data for accuracy 
  • Data management experience should include extraction, analysis, reporting and summarization.  
  • Experience with data query, report authorizing, managing data sets, providing analysis and producing appropriate data results.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with Python or R helpful 
     

Skills Needed:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational databases, including a strong understanding of the retrieval and analysis of data using database query and reporting tools such as Cognos and Tableau is essential, proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to identify, capture, analyze, and interpret various data points or measures, and prepare cohesive documents or reports for audiences of varying knowledge levels and/or backgrounds
  • Creativity and professionalism required, as is the ability to take the initiative to solve problems and to navigate the multiple data sources in our university environment including student, financial, space, instructional, and research data  
  • Must:
    • be able to proactively anticipate or seek understanding of the data needs of senior College leadership
    • have excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and build collegial relationships
    • be able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive data
