Research Scientist for the Electronic Materials and Devices Lab (EMDL) in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Ohio state, who serves as the lead EMDL research scientist focused on carrying out, guiding and enabling collaborative research and training in advanced semiconductor technologies, with primary specialization on defect spectroscopy of compound semiconductor devices, compound semiconductor characterization and device fabrication; supports externally funded programs on wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconductors, compound semiconductor photovoltaics, and radiation effects in semiconductors; EMDL activities include collaborations with other research groups and centers such as Nanofabrication facility at Nanotech West (NTW), the Semiconductor Epitaxy and Analysis Lab (SEAL), the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS), and the Intel-funded Center for Advanced Semiconductor Fabrication and Education (CAFE). These centers support research, development, education, and innovation in a wide range of semiconductor technologies that intersect with EMDL research.
Responsibilities of the Research Scientist will include: advancing the goals of, and providing support to, EMDL projects and facilities as a whole, working with EMDL and other faculty members and researchers; developing independent research and participating in collaborative efforts on the materials science, defect spectroscopy, characterization and device development of compound semiconductors such as gallium oxide, gallium nitride, and III-V compounds and other semiconductors that have applications in areas such as power electronics, space and terrestrial photovoltaics and high speed electronics; designing and implementing research based on defect spectroscopy methods; Serving as device processing and defect characterization subject matter expert; Performing and guiding laboratory research and providing training on semiconductor processing, fabrication, and defect characterization methods; Serving as technical liaison with other research groups and centers; Collaborating with OSU Principal Investigators on strategic projects and research proposal development; Serving as Principal/co-Principal Investigator on related research projects.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: training of research staff, supervising graduate and undergraduate students; designing and developing laboratory research capabilities; technical proposal development and writing; managing and executing on sponsored research projects; writing reports and presentations for contractual requirements; preparing research results for publication in journal articles, books, tutorials, conferences and other media; managing of laboratory equipment; purchasing of laboratory equipment.
It is also expected that the Research Scientist will secure external funding for partial support of their salary and research program.
Qualifications
Required: Ph.D. in materials science, electrical engineering or related field required; at least 2 years experience in research using defect spectroscopy required; at least 2 years experience on wide or ultrawide bandgap semiconductor materials and devices, including characterization, fabrication and testing required; at least 2 years of experience in working in a semiconductor cleanroom to develop compound semiconductor devices required; evidence for conducting and dissemination research results through archival publication and professional conference presentations required.
Desired: Experience with ultrahigh vacuum systems; experience using TCAD and other forms of device modeling; experience using sophisticated testing instrumentation, data acquisition, LABVIEW programming; experience working on research teams.
