Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland serves as the catalyst for high-quality research, innovation, and learning, preparing our students to create innovations that will address the 21st century Grand Challenges (e.g., energy, environment, security, and human health) and improve the human condition. The Clark School is dedicated to leading and transforming the engineering discipline and profession, to accelerating entrepreneurship, and to transforming research and learning activities into new innovations that benefit millions. The primary purpose of the Lab Manager is to oversee and maintain the Whiting-Turner (W-T) Infrastructure Engineering Laboratories in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The lab manager is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the labs, overseeing undergraduate research or testing activities, training teaching assistants for course lab activities, training graduate and undergraduate research assistants in operating equipment and instrumentation, and to provide oversight to all users in the W-T labs. Additionally, the lab manager will assist in various activities in the Environmental Engineering Service Center (ESC). Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications: | Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Civil or Mechanical Engineering). Experience: Knowledge of and minimum three (3) years experience in conducting large-scale structural testing projects, including with closed-loop servo-hydraulic testing systems. Physical Demands | This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment. This position requires that the individual is able to lifta minimum of 50lbs. and can maneuver large, cumbersome equipment. This individual may be working with potential chemical and/or biohazards related to research and teaching experiments. |
