Job Summary
The Charles C. Sherrod Library is accepting applications for an Innovation Commons Customer Support Specialist. 
This position reports to the Director of Innovative Technologies and Discovery Services, the Innovation Commons Customer Support Specialist provides operational support for the Innovation Commons programs and services. Innovation Commons is an innovative technology hub on the 2nd floor of Sherrod Library, where students and faculty collaborate using cutting-edge technology and expert guidance to explore digital media, extended reality, maker space tools, and audio recording. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the daily operations of the Innovation Commons spaces and service offerings. Responsibilities include training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student employees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of university organization, key personnel, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various tools and equipment commonly found in maker spaces such as 3D printers, laser cutters, digital media, extended reality, and audio recording.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices for using machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects within the Innovation Commons.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and provide guidance to users.
  • Knowledge of maintenance procedures to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Ability to foster a supportive and collaborative environment within the maker space community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with users of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training sessions on equipment usage, safety protocols, and best practices.
  • Ability to learn new tools, techniques, and systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 
  • One (1) year of experience in a relevant setting, 

or 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience. 

(Part-time, student, and internship experience will be considered towards years of experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education and/or academic maker spaces, digital media, or electronic arts labs.
  • Experience with making technologies including some combination of fabrication (e.g., 3D modeling, 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting), textiles (e.g., sewing, digital embroidery, crocheting), or electronics (e.g., microcontrollers, soldering, basic circuitry).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk Creation Suite, zBrush, and Apple Final Cut Pro/Logic Pro.
  • Experience with audio-visual equipment, AV recording/mixing, and podcasting.
  • Experience with Immersive Technologies: virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR).
  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience working with students and project teams; training and supervising the work of others.
Salary $37,890-$43,175
