Join our dynamic and collaborative team as a Systems Administrator where you will utilize the newest technologies in support of many enterprise level systems at Indiana University.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Supports the secure delivery of computing resources with a focus on Microsoft infrastructure (Windows Server, SQL Server, and Azure resources) along with EWA-supported resources in the IU Platform (Kubernetes and adjacent technologies).
  • Uses a variety of automation and system management tools to configure systems at scale, e.g. Ansible, PowerShell, Group Policy, Azure Policy.
  • Reviews vulnerability detection scan data and develops plans of action for remediation across a heterogeneous environment.
  • Evaluates hosted workloads against industry-standard benchmarks (e.g. the Center for Internet Security) and develops/implements configurations to align with these standards.
  • On-boards new departmental workloads to EWA and aligns their servers with EWA management practices.
  • Assists in managing compliance to regulatory requirements and IU policy; assesses system configurations against compliance requirements and remediate deficiencies.
  • Serves as a liaison with other security-focused organizations within IU (e.g. UIPO, UISO).
  • Contributes to the growth and modification of UITS systems by acquiring and maintaining knowledge of new and emerging applications, tools, and architectures that may be used to support business operations.
  • Performs generalist system administration tasks to support EWA operations, including delivery of monthly Windows platform updates and participating in an on-call rotation.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs ongoing advanced analysis and monitoring of technology environments to identify security exposures and potential threats.
  • Assesses and determines level of risk in order to provide threat information, as well as to advise and/or recommend protections and solutions, to security leadership and department decision-makers.
  • Makes recommendations to improve information security policies and procedures.
  • Researches and stays abreast of current higher education information security environment and trends; stays up-to-date and advises junior peers on information security analysis and monitoring best practices, tools, and approaches.
  • Leads communication, awareness and training efforts for faculty, staff and student population through the creation of informational bulletins, best practices.
  • Partners with security engineers to ensure exposures and risks are avoided and/or addressed.
  • Acts as point of escalation for response to information security incidents; may contribute on information security emergency response teams and/or on other information security projects.
  • May serve as project leader; often provides guidance to junior peers.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science or related field)

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

$63,336 - $77,000 per year based on experience and internal equity
