The UCLA Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (Broad Stem Cell Research Center (BSCRC)) is a multidisciplinary university-wide research organization on campus. The center supports innovation, excellence, and the highest ethical standards focused on taking groundbreaking stem cell research discoveries from the laboratory to the patient for the purpose of revolutionizing the treatment of disease. Since 2005, BSCRC has supported core facilities dedicated to the development and optimization of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC), hPSC-derived target cell types, and other hPSC-derived products. Several of our projects are currently advancing through the clinical translation pipeline. Additionally, BSCRC supports Good Tissue Practice (GTP) and clinical Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP)-compliant facilities to facilitate translational research.

The hPSC Research Associate will perform research on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), human embryonic stem cells (hESC) and other biological materials to support an active research program which has entered the pre-clinical testing phase. The individual will be responsible for conducting research to continue advancing the project towards clinical trial. This includes identifying, working out and standardizing new techniques to meet project milestones. Incumbent must have experience in biomedical studies including biochemical analysis, tissue culture and animal studies. Previous hands-on experience with human pluripotent stem cells is required. This position will develop detailed experimental plans, perform experiments according to deadline-driven timelines, and report to leadership and project sponsor. Incumbent will participate in developing regulatory submissions, including IND applications to the FDA. The Research Associate will also assist in preparing scientific manuscripts for publication. This individual will be responsible for complying with applicable regulatory requirements such as GTP, GLP and GMP, and will help oversee maintenance of the GMP/GTP facility. Evening and weekend work is likely based on the nature of the research.
