Facilities Management, Classroom Management, seeks a General Maintenance Mechanic- Lead to assist with repair and maintenance for classrooms on four ASU campuses.

Salary Range

$22.60 - $23.65 per hour; commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive bennefits package with the State of Arizona.


Essential Duties


  • Maintain written daily logs/record.
  • Supervise and/or provide directions to Student Workers.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Inspect classrooms and furniture for repair and maintenance needs.
  • Repair furniture including tightening nuts and bolts; change out broken parts using tools provided.
  • Repair and replace diverse types of flooring and transitions including changing out floor boxes; replace ceiling tiles.
  • Move and reset classroom furniture within classroom, between buildings and/or between campuses.
  • Troubleshoot lighting systems; room sensors; LED controllers and drivers; program lighting; change lamps/bulbs; replace ballasts.
  • Paint interior walls and perform drywall repairs.
  • Respond to trouble calls.
  • Make warranty repairs.
  • Utilize hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, incandescent bulb changer, linemen's pliers, channel locks, hammer, screwdrivers, sockets, bits, nut drivers, hex wrenches, levels, drywall hand tools, tile tools, measuring tapes, clamps).
  • Utilize power tools (e.g. cordless drill, circular saw, hammer-drill, reciprocating saw,) and equipment (e.g. single man lift and articulating man lifts; dollies). 
  • Troubleshoot heating and cooling problems and complaints.
  • Troubleshoot minor electrical outages and change batteries in ADA door opener controllers.
  • Attend furniture installation training for repair and warranty work.
  • Will travel and work on multiple campuses.
  • Work closely with custodial staff for classroom cleanliness.
  • Remove gum from classroom furniture.
  • Responsible for all aspects of classroom maintenance.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE:  Monday through Friday 6:00am-2:30pm


Minimum Qualifications

Three years of general maintenance and repair experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment. Some positions in this classification may be required to obtain an Environmental Protection Agency Type 1 refrigeration license upon employment.


Desired Qualifications

Experience in:

  • Commercial paint preparation and application.
  • Commercial carpentry repair and/or maintenance with minimal or no instruction.
  • Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Work order applications (e.g., TMA).
  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience with hand held devices – text, email and phone
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of furniture installation, repair and warranty work

Working Environment

  • Work on a team and contribute to team goals. 
  • Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, safety boots).  
  • Work off ladders; lift, bend and carry up to 50 pounds. 
  • Work inside conditioned and unconditioned space.  
  • Work in adverse working conditions such as tight spaces, dirty areas, low lighting, and extreme temperatures.  
  • Stoop, bend, and reach.  
  • Walk throughout campus. 
  • Drive University vehicles.  
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to perform essential duties.
