The Student Assistant performs a variety of support duties through close interaction with Administrative staff and faculty and, as needed, with other departments and/or organizations.
The duties and responsibilities of this position require interpersonal and clerical skills and an understanding of effective customer service.
Job Summary:
The GC THRIVE Program seeks to hire GC students to work as peer mentors for THRIVE students. GC THRIVE is an Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) Program that allows students with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to attend GC classes with their non-disabled peers, to participate in typical college life activities, and to develop skills for successful employment.
This position requires highly motivated individuals to work across various groups of stakeholders (e.g., faculty, THRIVE Program directors, internship supervisors, etc.). Peer Mentors are supervised by the GC THRIVE Academic Coordinator.
Peer Mentors are paid $11 per hour and may work up to 10 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
--Support THRIVE students academically by helping them complete their modified academic coursework
--Take initiative to connect THRIVE students with typical college life activities (e.g., lunch at the MAX or downtown, studying in the library, tabling at the fountain, exercising on front campus or the Wellness Center, visiting the career center, attending sporting events, etc.). Help THRIVE students to feel a sense of belonging.
--Support THRIVE students during their on-campus internships
--Meet regularly with the THRIVE Academic Coordinator
Required Qualifications:
--Current GC student with good academic and judicial standing
--(Preferred) Experience working with individuals with disabilities
--Exemplary ability to build relationships
--Reliability
--Desire to support THRIVE students with their modified academic coursework, with socialization (e.g., having lunch, exercising, etc.), with work internships on campus

Reception - 40 Assists a variety of visitors and refers a range of administrative issues and inquiries; serves as receptionist for incoming telephone calls, routes calls, and relays messages
.Administrative Support - 40 Retrieves and distributes incoming mail; deposits outgoing mail; hand delivers sensitive documents Operates equipment, including fax machine, personal computer or laptop, printer, copier, scanner, etc. Organizes and monitors inventory of office supplies

Student enrolled in at least six credit hours as an undergraduate student at Georgia College
