JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department is excited to announce a student internship opportunity for interested students. In collaboration with the Criminology Department in the College of Liberal Arts and University Police and Public Safety Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Unit, funding will be provided to help participants gain hands-on experience within various areas of the University Police and Public Safety Department.

Students may receive academic credit for successful completion of the internship from their institution of higher learning. Student interns will also have the opportunity to engage with various units including: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Unit, Criminal Investigations Unit, Uniformed Patrol Division, Administration/Records, and the Community-Oriented Policing Unit.

Interns will assist with creating, engaging and assisting with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives throughout the commonwealth. Some of those initiatives include recruitment and retention efforts, training opportunities and participating in outreach with the Community Oriented Policing Unit.

Additional qualifications for interested candidates include: at least 18 years of age, currently enrolled as a student at Penn State University with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one year of coursework at Penn State University. A standard background check, in addition to a CLEAN/NCIC federal fingerprint check, will be required prior to hiring.

Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter clearly stating their reasons for applying for the internship with the Penn State University Police Department, their relevant qualifications (may include coursework), and their expectations of the internship program. Additionally, interested candidates are asked to upload a resume, and a list of three (3) professional or academic references. Successful candidates will also be required to provide an original copy of their current transcripts.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
