Job Description
The Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation is seeking a leader to fulfill the role of Director of Information Technology with a vision for the future involving innovation and technology in nursing simulation and health innovation. This individual will need to strategize how to utilize existing methodologies while incorporating new systems and tools to further advance the college’s mission and goals. It will be just as important to provide strategy and direction in this space as it will be to effectively communicate and collaborate with numerous stakeholders. This position will oversee a variety of technical operations including but not limited to deskside support, networking, server support, conference, classroom, clinical simulation support, extended reality (Unreal and Unity Engines), artificial intelligence platforms, etc. while bringing together related teams to cohesively work together. The Director of Information Technology will lead and grow highly skilled developers with technical vision and mentoring, delivering top-notch training and simulation platforms to faculty, staff, and students. The Director of Technology will collaborate with instructional faculty, researchers, and administrators to ensure that their experiences are maximized through the use of current technology while leading the college’s future into new technology spaces.

Salary Range
$88,700 - $135,000 per year; DOE
Essential Duties
- Oversees acquisition and operation of technology resources (servers, networks, software, data services).
- Works with faculty/administration to define, adapt, develop and implement instructional technology software products for use in classrooms.
- Participates in formulation of annual budget and controls ongoing operating budget.
- Manages projects related to applications (educational and administrative).
- Participates in formulation of college or department of technology plans and policies.
- Administers the implementation of projects, and the application of policies.
- Leads the evaluation of emerging technologies and strategizes how to position technology within our programs and other offerings. Primary liaison to ASU Enterprise Technology (ET), and fulfills the role of Senior Technical Advisor for the college
- Ensures IT policies, procedures, and security measures are followed in the college and comply with current ABOR and University policies for IT practices
- Recommends actions to streamline technology related project workflow and operations, and improve performance standards
- Works with Grace Center leadership and staff, prelicensure and graduate faculty to build and maintain the highest quality of nursing simulation education equipment and platforms that meet or exceed current Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation standards Guide teams to maintain and improve overall code quality, ensuring that the team-generated code is cross-platform, reusable, and testable
- Manages internal and external technology dependencies and risks, and create contingency plans for all critical path technologies
- Works with the Grace Center Professor for Innovation in Clinical Education, Simulation Science, and Immersive Technology and the Coordinator of Emerging Technologies for the Edson Academic Enterprise to revise and validate engineering estimates and production plans
- Keeps current with technology advances and propose innovations that may benefit projects. Plans upgrades of various college spaces, sourcing quotes and working with vendors for install and implementation
- Directs staff recruitment, development and evaluation. Provide mentorship, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving assistance to members of the IT team
- Collaborates with clinical simulation administrators, staff and program faculty to ensure that we can incorporate virtual, augmented, and mixed reality into our learning platforms
- Ensures that IT team provides deskside support and troubleshooting local network or integration issues in the Edson College including Grace Center and HFC
- Guides IT team in back end support of various servers, database management, distribution lists, and detailed inventory of hardware
- Develops, manages, measures, and reports on key service-level metrics including end user satisfaction, and develop action plans to address areas needing improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field AND eight (8) years of related experience as a computing professional, which includes five (5) years of management/supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Demonstrated knowledge of programming logic and debugging skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of data structures, algorithms, complexity, and system design
- Ability to implement cybersecurity best practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical operations as it applies to higher education
- Experience in working with a nursing college and how technology supports the classroom and clinical experience (including clinical simulations)
- Experience in project management skills, to identify a problem and find a pathway to a solution
- Experience in using interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.
- Experience in providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of PC and Mac platforms with experience in Microsoft Office and the
ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
- May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
