Job Summary

We are seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to support a growing research program focused on integrative medicine to advance health equity . The CRC will primarily support a study of group-based integrative pain management in safety-net primary care clinics in San Francisco. The position will also support other research and program evaluation of group medical visits and models to increase access to integrative healthcare. The CRC will enroll participants into the study, perform study assessments, coordinate participant follow-up visits, and support all program aspects of implementing group-based pain management at the study sites. Study activities will be conducted in English and Spanish.

This hybrid position is based at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health at the Mt. Zion campus, with regular travel to Zuckerberg San Francisco General and to San Francisco Health Network clinics, and options for some remote work.

The CRC must have strong organizational skills and be detail oriented. This position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively and sensitively with people with a diverse range of socio-cultural backgrounds. The CRC must be able and willing to adhere to study guidelines, keep accurate records, maintain confidentiality, and attend regular study team meetings.

The CRC’s duties may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Recruiting and screening potential participants for eligibility, scheduling study interventions, and tracking participant progress through the study.
  • Obtaining informed consent and conducting data collection with study participants, including administering surveys and one-on-one interviews.
  • Supporting the implementation of interventions at the study sites such as coordinating supplies, setting up rooms, supporting interventionists with welcoming participants, checking patients into the electronic health records (EHR), ensuring timely implementation of study sessions, tracking study visits, tracking intervention fidelity, and reconciling data from the EHR with study databases.
  • Communicating with PIs and other study leaders as needed; serving as a liaison between study interventionists and PIs.
  • Create, clean, update, and manage databases and reports.
  • Managing study databases to ensure study data integrity and conducting data quality control.
  • Reporting study progress to PIs.
  • Assisting with training and oversight of fellows and trainees on study procedures as needed.
  • Assisting with modifying and managing Institutional Review Board applications.
  • Assuring compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Participating in audits or reviews of study protocols.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with study participants, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse study population.
  • Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
  • Experience in human subjects research in an academic and/or medical setting.
  • Proficient in speaking and writing in Spanish.
  • Experience working with patients or study participants in clinical healthcare settings.
  • Proficiency with Zoom and Microsoft Suite Software, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of recent, directly related work experience utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position.
  • Experience working with racially and ethnically diverse low-income communities.
  • Knowledge and commitment to principles and applications of health equity,
  • Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Ability to learn and use DocuSign, Salesforce, and Box.com platforms.
  • Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and a clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.); knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines.
