Department Summary

Academic Technology sets the strategy for a portfolio of enterprise-wide products and platforms enabling the activities of academic stakeholders across the university. The Academic Technology team designs, develops, configures, enhances, optimizes, and maintains core enterprise technologies ensuring functionality end, quality, business value, user-experience, and digital accessibility of the products and platforms meet the expectations of the campus community. Academic Technology fuels ITS’ cloud-first strategy by strategically reducing technical debt in partnership with other departments and teams leveraging cutting-edge techniques to accelerate releases using automation and application lifecycle management standards and tools.The Faculty Information Products team conceives, configures, monitors, defines, tests, delivers, monitors, optimizes, and refines Faculty Information products and application technologies, including but not limited to mobile and web applications, collaboration tools, CRM products, budget/financial management products, HR applications, and other services. This department also works to optimize user experience, address digital accessibility needs, and establish the highest standards of quality assurance and release management for UCLA's administrative applications and technologies.


Position Summary

The Business Systems Analyst, Faculty Information Products, will help define, test, and deliver product solutions to maximize business value. The Business Systems Analyst Faculty Information Products will conduct customer research and collaborate with key stakeholders across UCLA to gather business requirements and help translate them into functional and technical requirements. They will conduct analyses, create process models, document requirements, and work with their product team to ensure that the solutions developed meet the desired business outcomes. They will identify, define and document application defects; and track and monitor defects through resolution. Through the use of various analytical tools and methodologies, they will identify trends and opportunities that can drive innovation and efficiency in UCLA's technological offerings. In addition, they will contribute to the strategic planning process by providing insights and data-driven recommendations to help shape the university's IT roadmap. This role will also support the product team's delivery and sustainment of an excellent end-to-end customer experience.

The Business Systems Analyst, Faculty Information Products, will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling University stakeholders to effectively leverage Faculty Information products and applications. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. Qualifications
  • Three years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: computer science, computer information systems, BSA (Business Systems Analyst), or related field. (Required)
  • Experience designing and documenting business processes and configuring application functions. Understanding of Lean and Agile methodologies. (Required)
  • Experience conducting or facilitating requirement gathering interviews or sessions. Experience utilizing analytics tools to measure success, present opportunities, and support decision-making. (Required)
  • Experience developing and executing application test plans to identify and track product defects. (Required)
  • Experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
  • Five or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: computer science, business systems analysis, computer information systems. (Preferred)
  • Experience working in higher education or a similarly federated environment. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's need and the success of a desired product, service and enhancement. (Required)
  • Proven record of delivering end-to-end, user-centered products by considering stakeholder requirements, user research, market analysis, data, customer feedback, and technical constraints or opportunities. (Required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate technical information and ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. (Required)
  • Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required)
  • Strong organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. (Required)
  • Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills; scopes solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines. Able to ask questions, gather information, evaluate options, and make decisions with integrity. (Required)
  • Thinks creatively and proposes innovative ideas, including the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Is able to work with agility in a fast-paced environment. (Required)
  • Knowledge of automated testing and test management tools (e.g. Selenium, Playwrite, Xray). (Required)

    • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).

      The anticipated pay range for this position is $103,500 - $115,000, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
