Job Description

The Assistant Director, Administrative Operations for the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at ASU will be responsible for supervising and coordinating multiple staff teams in fulfilling their overall missions and particular responsibilities within the School; including its two Centers; as well as implementing tasks and special projects as assigned by School leadership in order to fully achieve the School’s blended educational and civic missions.

Essential Duties

  • Assist the School Director and Associate Director in the management of the School by directing the activities of assigned staff and coordinating activities of different staff teams
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff. Act as back up for the Communication and Events Managers
  • Collaborate with Associate Director and Director to assess, develop and implement internal processes to facilitate office efficiencies and effectiveness
  • Work closely with Director to ensure smooth and timely implementation of both ongoing tasks and special projects or assignments
  • Work closely with college administration to ensure adherence with college and university policies, practices and regulations
  • Acts as back up to the Assistant to Director for matters of faculty personnel actions, such as annual reviews, promotions and tenures, etc.
  • Provide support to the Director and the Associate Director in organizing and managing school committees
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Business and Financial team, the Undergrad and Graduate committees to ensure smooth execution of projects
  • Liaison with the Directors and Program Managers of the two centers within the School: the Center for American Civics, and the Center for the Study of Economic Liberty
  • Serve as The College liaison to various administrative offices of the University
  • Work in conjunction with School leaders to coordinate a variety of confidential materials and communications
  • Resolve or assist with the resolution of sensitive issues
  • Assist with the school development effort and donors’ relationship
  • Other duties as assigned by School Director – to include support on events, and strategic-level planning and leadership for the School

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting
  • Activities also in various university and community settings interacting with students, faculty, staff, community members, and VIP guests or contacts
  • Subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities
  • Communicate to perform essential duties
