Job Description

The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University is actively seeking a dynamic, innovative individual to enhance a vibrant team in the Dean’s office, located at the Polytechnic campus. This role involves a variety of challenging and confidential administrative tasks, necessitating a high degree of autonomy, discernment, and expertise. The ideal candidate will be progressive, capable of autonomous and collaborative work, and will interact with senior administrators across the college and its schools.

Specifically, the Associate Director for People and Talent will be responsible for leading and managing several Human Resources functions within CISA. This includes designing compensation strategies, handling employee relations, developing recruitment tactics for both external and internal hires, fostering employee growth, shaping the organizational culture and evaluation processes, managing academic personnel affairs, and conducting HR data analytics.

Essential Duties

Academic Personnel: Oversees, audits and helps to organize workflow in Academic Personnel processes, collaborates with Associate Deans and Assistant Director on best practices for recruitments and consistency for the schools and college to ensure compliance with university, state and federal requirements.    

Compensation/Performance Management: Works with the college partners and administrators to implement and update college staff compensation strategy and to manage the performance management process, including job descriptions and outcomes.  

Employee Relations: Works closely and in conjunction with the ASU Office of Human Resources (OHR) to advise, interpret and provide direction to management and staff on university rules and procedures. Works closely with the OHR liaison to resolve or assist with the resolution of sensitive human resource issues.  

Staff Culture: Collaborates on design and implements strategic ASU/college directives to foster a diverse workplace environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered at work. Serves as college contact for leading Culture + Inclusion initiatives.  

Special Initiatives:  Works on special projects and initiatives that serve the college and schools.

Represents the college/schools and serves on various department and university committees.  


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors in Business, Human Resources, or related field and eight (8) years experience OR Masters degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field and six (6) years of experience in a related field three (3) of which is in a leadership role involving project and resource management as well as strategic planning OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of Human Resources professional certification (SHRM, World at Work, HRCI). 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the concepts of employee relations. 
  • Experience developing/updating staff job descriptions for positions in a broad range of functional areas. 
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with data warehouse. 
  • Experience in using Excel. 
  • Experience with systems such as Analytics, PeopleSoft, Kenexa, and Interfolio.  

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. 
  • Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds. 
  • Communicate to perform essential duties.
