Job Summary
The Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Communications oversees a multifaceted approach to media relations, managing staff, developing strategic plans for communication outreach, and maintaining the athletics department’s online presence. Building strong relationships with local and regional media partners, organizing press conferences, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and university standards are integral aspects of the role, all aimed at promoting student-athletes, the department, and the university effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead, direct, manage, and oversee the athletic communications staff and gameday staff, while serving as media contact for assigned sports.
  • Manage the conceptualization and development of the strategic unit plan for the communication outreach for athletics department. Elements include, but not limited to, sport recaps, previews and features, community and academic events, marketing/ticketing initiatives and sponsorship element fulfillment.
  • Manage athletics website, oversee content management, and story concepts in promotion of student-athletes, department, and University.
  • Build local and regional relationships with all media partners.
  • Become an integral member of the Athletics Impact Team
  • Lead the Management and approval of all media requests for department.
  • Organize and oversee all press conferences.
  • Ensure the reporting of stats, schedules, rosters, and all other media needs meet NCAA, conference, and University expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with six (6) years of progressive intercollegiate athletic communications career development including areas of journalism, public relations, and media services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or advanced degree.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Work experience in NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletics
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge in budget oversight.
  • Professional writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of statistical programming, software skillset including Office and Adobe products.
Other Requirements
  • Maintain consistency with University, Conference, and NCAA and Conference communications policies, procedures, and regulation while working closely with these and other governing bodies.

Working Conditions
  • Press box setting, press row setting, outdoors working environment at certain sporting events, and team travel.
