The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for one or more full-time, 9-month, benefited, tenure-track positions in Computer Science at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with the anticipated start date of August 2024 or Spring 2025. An earned doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related field before the start date is required.
 
The EECS department invites outstanding applicants in all areas of computer science with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and/or Simulation/Sim-Assisted AI.  The successful candidate is expected to augment and/or enhance current research expertise within the EECS department.  The Computer Science concentration within the EECS Department has research expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence, virtual reality/simulation development, cyber-physical systems and security, data science and engineering, high performance computing, and robotics & autonomous systems.
 
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate expertise or exceptional potential in leading a vibrant, externally funded, scholarly research program.  In addition, the successful candidate should have the ability to teach a wide array of courses within the graduate and undergraduate computer science curriculum, advise undergraduate and graduate CS students, and engage in service activities as assigned.
 
The EECS department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate B.S. degrees in Computer Engineering, Computer Science (with specialization options), and Electrical Engineering, as well as graduate Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Electrical Engineering and Data Science and Engineering. In its 2021 rankings, Study.com puts SD Mines in the top 10 best electrical engineering degree programs in the nation. The graduate program in electrical engineering ranked 24th among the best electrical engineering programs offered nationwide by CollegeChoice.net in 2018.
