The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at South Dakota Mines is seeking to fill a tenure track faculty position at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level related to Geotechnical Engineering. An earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and evidence in teaching and research excellence are required. We seek candidates who will establish a strong externally funded research program, contribute to the CEE PhD program, and have the ability to teach courses related to geotechnical engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as other fundamental civil engineering courses. The position has dual focus of teaching and research. The desired start date for the position is August 2024.

The department and campus have expertise in geotechnical earthquake engineering, geo-environmental engineering, foundation design, rock mechanics, landslides and slope stability, remote sensing and geomatics, and biogeotechnics. We are seeking a new faculty member who can complement these areas of strength with particular interest in those who have the breadth of geotechnical expertise and depth of geotechnical knowledge to work effectively on and eventually lead transdisciplinary research teams. Experience in industry or government as a practicing geotechnical engineer is beneficial. Please direct questions to the head of the search committee, Dr. Bret Lingwall.
