Job Description

Under general direction from the Vice Provost Inclusion Excellence, is responsible for developing,  implementing, supporting, and evaluating campus initiatives that increase equity and inclusion efforts for  students, faculty and staff. Provides strategic direction and planning with the objective to support a  diverse campus, enabling the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students from vastly diverse  backgrounds.

Essential Duties

  • Supports the Vice Provost Inclusion Excellence and Academic Enterprise leadership with  development and implementation of diversity and inclusion strategies, including, but not limited to: recruitment, inclusive education, leadership development, faculty and student recruitment, and  retention, ASU community engagement.
  • Serves as subject matter expert to Academic Enterprise constituents and leadership to develop  strategic action plans and/or initiatives to attract, develop and retain a diverse workforce by  analyzing demographics; monitoring data trends and developing diversity strategies.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and promotes training and educational programs designed to  enhance understanding of inclusion and diversity issues; reviews and evaluates effectiveness of programs and adjusts as appropriate to ensure achievement of established outcomes and goals.
  • Supports staff, faculty, future faculty and student development programs related to diversity,  inclusion, social justice, inclusive classrooms, cultural intelligence and change.
  • Engages and partners with a variety of internal and external constituents to regularly communicate diversity and inclusion initiatives, events and programs; builds and fosters diversity, equity and inclusion efforts locally, nationally and internationally through existing ASU networks and partnerships,  
  • Develops, fosters and cultivates partnerships with community groups, professional organizations,  and University groups.
  • Supports the implementation of individual and organizational needs assessments related to  diversity, equity and inclusion. Utilizes internal assessments and surveys to identify and overcome barriers to attaining diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree Sociology, Psychology, Education or related field, and at least five (5) years of experience in higher education implementing and managing diversity initiatives; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D preferred.
  • Experience in program coordination and management.
  • Advanced training and instruction experience using multiple modalities and delivery methods preferred.
  • Experience with STEM faculty and  student support programming.
  • Familiarity with best practices for change management—including policy development.
  • Familiarity with the Michigan model of Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) pedagogy and practice preferred.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended  periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject  to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
