Job Description
The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to initiate, plan, and coordinate academic advising, retention, and related graduate student services in a uniquely diverse setting. The Academic Success Advisor will work as part of a team to provide academic advising to online graduate students. This position requires an individual who is a self-starter and who has the ability to multi-task and work with a variety of student populations as well as community and university partners.
This position is mostly remote, but does require some in person meetings and events. Must live in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Salary Range
$50,000 - $55,000 per year; DOE
Essential Duties
- Provides academic advising and academic success support functions to students to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of degree program.
- Assists students to explore a variety of academic options, register for courses and make timely progress towards completion of degree.
- Advises graduate students in the development of their interactive Plan of Study (iPOS) and track students through completion of degree.
- Works collaboratively and collegially with the Graduate College, faculty, directors, ASU Online, academic units and services to facilitate comprehensive student support.
- Monitors student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools; works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure academic success.
- Handles problems, provides guidance and advice to students, responds to inquiries (prospective students, current students, faculty, etc.) in a timely manner using effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills and methods as appropriate to address questions and/or concerns.
- As primary liaison, connects students with academic and personal resources including, but not limited to: tutoring, counseling and career services; provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services.
- Utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.
- Assists with academic program development and implementation.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or closely related field from a regionally-accredited college or university.
- Experience with online learning and advising online and/ or graduate students.
- Experience in coaching and retaining online and/ or graduate students through critical thinking and strategic communication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of serving online and/ or graduate students via Salesforce, phone, Zoom, and email.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and other interested parties.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student information systems (Salesforce, PeopleSoft, iPOS).
- Professional experience working in non-profit higher education.
- Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilize new technology, practices, policies and methods.
- Experience working on a team and demonstrating flexibility.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office computer applications and ability to maintain electronic student files.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
