About the Opportunity

The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering is the largest Academic Department within the College of Engineering. The Academic Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) department's educational and operational initiatives. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Academic Assistant will handle the purchasing of parts and products on a large scale for our Senior Capstone Design program and other departmental needs. This position primarily focuses on providing essential assistance to the Senior Capstone Design Program, managing teaching lab needs, and collaborating with faculty, lab technicians, and other stakeholders. The Academic Assistant also contributes to co-planning and co-executing Capstone related events. This position ensures that materials, resources, and facilities are readily available to facilitate a productive learning and research environment. The Academic Assistant will work closely with other members of the staff and faculty in the department to assist with special projects and other administrative support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, but relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Proficiency in office software and the ability to learn new software as needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when required.
  • Prior experience in academic or technical support roles is a plus.
