The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is one of the premier Division I schools in the country and one of four Division I schools in the state of Wisconsin. Currently, UWM offers 15 sports at the NCAA Division I level, with more than 300 student-athletes in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s volleyball, women’s tennis, and baseball.
Job Summary
The Athletic Academic Advisor will provide comprehensive academic support services to student athletes under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services. These services will include but are not limited to: providing individual or group student advising on academic and career related issues, along with programs and curriculum, while assisting students in obtaining their desired academic outcome.
The incumbent shall know, recognize and comply with the laws, policies, rules and regulations governing University and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) and the applicable Conference, as now constituted or as they may be amended during the Term of this agreement. Employee shall take all reasonable steps to ensure that all assistant coaches, and any other employees for whom Employee is administratively responsible, comply with aforesaid policies, rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least one year of academic advising experience in a collegiate setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field
  • Demonstrated experience academic advising NCAA Division I student-athletes
  • Experience with NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to student-athletes
  • Experience leading or assisting with student professional and personal development initiatives and programs
  • Experience working with collegiate-level students, faculty, coaches, and administrators from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience onboarding freshmen and transfer student-athletes, and/or experience identifying at-risk students
Target Salary Range Salary will be commensurate with experience
