Minimum Position Qualifications
Master’s Degree and one (1) year of appropriate experience in an educational setting; or must have fully obtained a Master’s Degree by the employee’s start date.
Special Conditions
The department is especially interested in candidates with direct advising experience in Higher Education or professional orientation in academic, career, and educational counseling. Experience with advising tools such as Navigate, UMdegree, Banner, and Filemaker is an advantage.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
May require work beyond normal work schedule during peak periods.

Working Conditions

Job Duties


Duties & Responsibilities
Assists students in making an informed, timely, and appropriate decision regarding their academic major. Interprets test score data in order to direct students into the appropriate selection of mathematics, foreign language, natural sciences, English composition, and course loads. Presents options to students to optimal course selections which provide the highest likelihood to apply toward a degree. Advises students regarding resources for non-academic concerns such as financial aid, admission, employment, and personal and career counseling. Advises students regarding strategies to maintain academic scholarships such as the HOPE.

Provides orientation services to students; and assists them in adjusting to new surroundings and academic demands. Articulates multiple options to new students and facilitates selection into programs such as Honors, Fresh Connections, ACAD, Student Support Services, and Study Abroad.

Assists students in making decisions regarding late registration and late drops/adds. Advises students on strategies to address issues relating to high school deficiencies, academic warning, and academic probation. Serves as the primary contact for their students to receive early intervention notices.
