Summary of Duties

This position will be responsible for advising and providing program support to current and prospective students at the Carson College of Business. Responsibilities include career and curriculum advising, participating in student recruitment activities, evaluating/maintaining the materials to support student admissions and retention, and contributing to the advancement of the Carson Career Amplifier Program.

This position will also provide proactive outreach and service to currently enrolled students to ensure retention goals are met and exceeded. This involves coordinating with advisors, admissions, and other academic departments to create appropriate advising tools, as well as working with Carson College of Business faculty and other WSU (Washington State University) system-wide units on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of academic policies.

Duties include but are not limited to advising undergraduate students year-round, motivating students to set and achieve educational and career goals, conducting group advising sessions, assisting with Carson College orientation programming, and actively supporting student retention.

The Opportunity

The Carson College of Business invites candidates to apply for an Academic Advisor to provide advanced-level professional advising to undergraduate students on the WSU Vancouver campus. You will provide guidance, advice, and support to faculty and staff in all matters regarding undergraduate student advising and program advising records. You will also serve as a primary contact for advising inquiries, student graduation, undergraduate advising policy and procedures, and administration of the undergraduate advising system for the program.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Experience with first-year success initiatives.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population including non-traditional, first-generation college students and under-represented student populations.
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment.
  • Ideally, the candidate would be open to engaging in paid teaching responsibilities within the department as needed, enriching our students' learning experiences and contributing to our academic community.

Work Location and Schedule: 

The position will be primarily in person on campus at WSUV. Hybrid work may be available after the initial training period.

Monthly Salary:

Minimum: $4,050 ($48,600/year); Midpoint: $4,941 ($59,292/year); Maximum: $5,832 ($69,984/year), Grade 3 Zone 3. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to the mid-point of the salary range.
