Job Description:

Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair: engines, transmissions, differentials, fuel pumps, injectors, steering systems, starters, alternators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, low voltage electrical systems, pumps, valves, and other related components. Perform the replacement, installation, and adjustment of brakes, batteries, tires, safety devices, hydraulic hoses, and fittings. Read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.

Perform system checks on vehicles and equipment using proper diagnostic tools. Use proper procedures for checking and maintaining specifications, fluids, and pressures on components and equipment.

Perform annual safety inspections of equipment for operating deficiencies and make routine adjustments where necessary. Secure tools, parts, and equipment as necessary. Overhaul equipment as required.

Maintain accurate written and computerized records using current work order management system. May interact with customers and vendors on occasion. Provide road service to fleet vehicles and other University equipment. Pickup and deliver supplies and materials to various locations as required. Clean work areas after completion of job.

Make recommendations for outsourcing repairs of equipment and vehicles.

Complete and maintain all necessary documentation. Follow all proper shop operational procedures and safety guidelines. Perform duties incidental to the work described herein.

A criminal background and post-offer health assessment will be conducted.

Possess valid Florida driver’s license and ASE Certification - Brakes and Suspension


Normal Work Schedule: 

7:00am – 3:30pm Monday through Friday

Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.


Advertised Salary:

Expected starting salary $21.00 - $22.00 Hourly based on experience.

Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma (or equivalent) and two (2) to four (4) years of experience in the field or in a related area or completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training/certification program and 1 years of experience in the field or in a related area,
• Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience performing specialized mechanical duties in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of trucks, vans, cars, and cart systems. Experience maintaining parts for automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery according to specifications; Ability to operate brake lathe, drill presses, saws and grinders.
