Job Description: Data analysis and processing scripts for the Soltises and researchers working with them and provide technical support to these and other researchers who are writing their own scripts. Work closely with the Soltises and their research groups and collaborators to achieve goals of research projects, especially those funded by external grants. The following areas are research areas of importance:
  • Genome assembly and annotation
  • Phylogenetic analyses
  • Phylodiversity investigations
  • Ecological niche modeling
Support the lab in fostering best practices in open code and data sharing, managing the lab’s github.com organization, and providing coding and data management support; serve as the primary liaison with Museum and UF IT support for Soltis lab computers.
Support students, postdocs, and visitors in laboratory work developing and optimizing protocols, working in coordination with the Soltises’ Biological Scientist II employee and the Florida Museum Molecular Lab Manager.
Contribute to grant proposals and to peer-reviewed research publications: scholarly duties include analysis and interpretation of data generated through laboratory research, conducting literature searches, preparing figures for use in proposals and manuscripts, and coordinating manuscript publication with collaborators.
Web Development: maintain several lab websites, mostly in WordPress, adding content, monitoring and applying updates, etc.
Social media and outreach: will provide content for social media posts and website updates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:

$70,000.00 - $80,000.00; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience or Master's degree in biology or a related field with five year of experience. Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Highly organized with strong attention to detail, including maintaining sterile, clean, and safe laboratories. More than two years of experience coordinating diverse research activities in a molecular laboratory. Experience with mentoring and/or overseeing students and staff. Familiarity with DNA extraction, library preparation, cloning, cross-species Target Gene Capture, and/or Nextgen Sequencing. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in genomics and genome assembly and annotation and with experience in conducting analyses using High-Performance Computing. Must be able to work closely with a large and diverse group of people, including PIs, staff, students, and vendors.
