Job Description:

UF, College of Dentistry is searching for an Oral Surgery Technician. The Oral Surgery Technician herein described assists faculty with patients at chairside. The incumbent will set up and break down dental trays in operatories.  He/she assists with fabricating casts and prostheses.  The incumbent will work closely with prosthodontic and surgical faculty to assure a pleasant visit in the Implant Center.  He/she assist and coordinate outpatient surgical procedures performed in oral surgery implant center.  The incumbent anticipates surgical needs, including instruments, sutures, etc.  He/she will monitor and observe sedated patients using a blood pressure monitor, electrocardiogram (EKG) monitor, and a pulse oximeter (while under the direction of the physician or nurse) for indications of abnormal reactions during surgical procedures. 

Assist faculty, fellows, and residents (as assigned and otherwise) in the care of prosthodontic patients at the chair; perform four-handed dentistry, mix materials, communicate with patients.  Assist and coordinate outpatient surgical procedures performed in oral surgery implant center.  Anticipate surgical needs, including instruments, sutures, etc.  Monitor and observe sedated patients using a blood pressure monitor, EKG monitor, and pulse oximeter (while under the direction of a physician or nurse) for indications of abnormal reaction during surgical procedures.  Performs pre- and post-operative instructions for routine outpatient procedures in assigned clinic. 
 
Assist faculty, fellows, and residents associated with clinical research co-sponsored by the implant center in caring for patients, gathering records, and making appointments. 
 
Setup and breakdown dental operatories for patient appointments; maintain instruments, equipment, and operatories in good, clean condition. 
 
Assist faculty, fellows, and residents in treating patients via expanded functions permitted by Chapter 466 and 21-G FRS. 
 
Perform implant administrative duties; assist with scheduling implant patients, keeping records, and patient follow-up. 
 
Assist faculty, fellows, and residents in the laboratory fabricating casts, prosthesis, etc. 
 
Become familiar with new equipment, materials, and techniques through participation in in-service training and continuing education programs. 
 
Assist patients (including disabled individuals) into and out of dental operatories and treatment chairs.  Assist and/or perform emergency medical procedures (closed cardiac compression, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and oxygen administration) as required. 
 
Assist auxiliaries regularly assigned to the faculty and student clinics (as requited and indicated by supervisors). 
 
Assist in any other duties deemed necessary by supervisor. 

Expected Salary:

$17.00 - $19.00 per hour commensurate based on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of Oral Surgery with sedation monitoring experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. DAANCE certification will substitute for the two years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Training:

  • Certification as an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary
  • Certification in dental assisting
