Job Description:

Cytology Processing 
Perform cytology processing for a wide range of specimens, ensuring accurate labeling, timely receipt, and proper storage. Proficiently operate laboratory equipment including centrifuges, Thin Prep processor, and slide stainers. Perform Non-Gyn Pap and Non-Gyn H&E slide staining and cover slipping. Provide quality control efforts, performing routine checks for specimen sample quality, staining consistency, and promptly reporting any discrepancies to the lab supervisor. Handle specimen related problems and provide troubleshooting abilities to resolve issues with documentation, labeling or errors in EPIC. Perform inventory management for cytology processing supplies.

Slide and Block management:
Receive, track, and return AP materials between 3rd Street Lab, Leesburg Hospital, The Villages Hospital, Gainesville and other laboratories. Create packing lists. Check if cases have been signed out and monitor pending cases. File and retrieve slides and blocks as needed. File associated paperwork.


Accessioning, Report Editing, and Send Outs:
Assist in the accessioning of specimens through acceptance, documentation, and registration as specimens enter the laboratory. Perform editing and proofreading of pathology reports ensuring patient confidentiality and complying with healthcare privacy regulations. Assist with send outs requests.


Prepping of materials:
Under guidance of the pathologists and histotechnologists, prepare materials and assist with tasks within the laboratory. Perform inventory management, put away supplies as needed, pull supplies and prepare for transportation via courier/ distribution to clients.


Manage phone calls:
Answers incoming phone calls in a pleasant, professional manner. Communicates with pathologists and other clinical staff for information on cases and other related matters. Work closely and amicably with laboratory and clerical personnel in resolving status problems and maintaining appropriate documentation of all client service encounters. Must understand the laboratory workflow and how to access the information systems for the purpose of researching, troubleshooting and following up on specimen related progress.

Expected Salary: Starting salary i between $16.15 - $17.68
Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or equivalent.
Good verbal and writing skills.
Computer experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
