Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 August 2027 in the first instance. Please note that the funding for this role has an end date of 31 August 2027 due to temporary teaching needs with limited duration and the contract must finish by that date.
We are looking to recruit a full time Teaching Associate in Sociology from 2 September 2024 or as soon after as possible to provide teaching and assessment in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge. Specialisms in Political Sociology and Sociological Theory are particularly welcome to support core teaching. Ability to teach quantitative research skills is desirable.
The role holder's duties will be:
- Teaching, marking and supervision coverage in the biggest undergraduate papers, SOC 1 Introduction to Sociology, SOC 2 Social Theory, SOC3 Global Social Problems and SOC6 Advanced Social Theory
- Teach on the MPhil in Sociology according to their research specialism
- Supervise MPhil students according to research specialism
- Contribute to other undergraduate papers as appropriate including SOC4 Concepts and Arguments and by supervising Undergraduate dissertations
General duties will include teaching, course development and innovation, outreach and examining. The Teaching Associate will be expected to support and maintain the Department's and University's national and international reputation for excellence in teaching.
You will be an engaging and confident teacher at undergraduate and postgraduate level, or looking to develop postgraduate teaching skills. You will have relevant teaching experience, hold a PhD in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate active, collegial engagement in teaching, research, and outreach in the Sociology. You will be extremely organised, a good communicator, and be a skilled administrator.
The Department of Sociology is part of a joint undergraduate degree programme in Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS) and also has a vibrant MPhil and PhD programme. There are currently about 80 students working on PhDs on a diverse range of topics in sociology.
