An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and positive individual to join the School of the Biological Sciences as a Roving Undergraduate Teaching Administrator. You will make an important contribution to the effective administration and delivery of undergraduate education in the School. In this role, you will cover staffing gaps in our departmental teaching administration offices and provide training to new recruits.
The Faculty of Biology is responsible for undergraduate teaching and examining in the Medical and Veterinary Sciences Triposes, the Natural Sciences Tripos and the Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Tripos, covering around 2500 undergraduate students. We seek an energetic, professional individual to take on this new and exciting role as part of the School's vision to build a more resilient undergraduate teaching administration.
The main part of the role will be to cover for shortfall in staffing in our departmental teaching administration offices. As such, the role will include the varied tasks associated with providing day-to-day coordination and delivery of all administrative processes and functions related to undergraduate teaching. The list of tasks will depend on the post being covered and include managing information and communication with students, managing student data, updating the Virtual Learning Environment, coordinating examinations, coordinating teaching timetables, supporting committees, organising undergraduate events, and analysing data.
In addition, the role holder will be responsible for the induction and training of undergraduate teaching administrators in the School. They will provide a first-port-of-call service for new recruits and coordinate the professional development of existing staff in relation to the skills and systems in use in our School undergraduate administration.
Finally, at times when no staff cover is required, the post holder will lead process improvement projects to increase the consistency and efficiency of undergraduate teaching administration in collaboration with all departments.
Skills essential to this role include excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), excellent communication and organisational skills, experience of working in a customer-focused office environment, and great time management skills with the ability to prioritise a diverse and changing workload. Previous experience in teaching administration at the University of Cambridge would be a significant advantage.
