We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with expertise in endo-lysosomal biology and biochemical aspects of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS)to join the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ARUK-ODDI) based at the Centre for Medicines Discovery, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will be responsible for providing the experimental and analytical expertise required to prosecute target validation and drug discovery for mechanisms regulating endo-lysosomal functions and UPS-mediated proteostasis. You will develop screening assays, establish and pursue new scientific techniques. You will manage your own academic research and administrative activies, contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income. You will conduct your own experimental work and provide expertise for the establishment and use of iPSC-derived neuronal cultures. Additionally, you will carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partnering academic or industrial institutions and present research findings in discussions with collaborators.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related subject, together with research experience relevant to the field of endo-lysosomes and protein degradation mechanisms. You will have previous experience in in vitro assay development to test the effect of pharmacological modulation. You will be able to manage in an organised manner the day-to-day tasks of independent experimental research. You will have excellent communication skills including the ability to write text that can be published. Having experience in cellular pathology of Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease is desirable.
