A position for a research technician (80 - 100%) in neuroscience is available immediately to work in the group of Prof. Andreas Lüthi at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI).
Our work aims to understand how the brain generates internal states and how neuromodulators, such as dopamine and serotonin, influence neuronal activity and the communication between brain regions during behavior.
We use state-of-the-art behavioral, optogenetic, imaging, and electrophysiological techniques in mice.
Main responsibilities
In this hands-on position, you will work closely with the team to support ongoing research projects by carrying out behavioral and optogenetic experiments, performing stereotaxic surgeries, and histological processing (tissue slicing, immunostaining, fluorescent microscopy).
Hands-on experience with mice is required. Previous experience in the specific techniques would be advantageous but is not a prerequisite, as training will be provided. However, applicants should have completed relevant technical training or hold a university degree in biological sciences (or equivalent). Applicants with an M.Sc. or Ph.D. are welcome to apply.
Profile
- Experience in working with mice and relevant accreditation (LTK/FELASA)
- Desire to learn new techniques and apply these to a high standard
- High levels of motivation are needed, especially when carrying out repetitive tasks
- Well-developed organizational and planning skills
- Independent working attitude and a high degree of flexibility
- Reliability and strong work ethics
- Fluency in English
- Experience in neuroscience techniques is highly desired (stereotaxic surgeries, behavioral experimentation, histological processing)
We offer competitive compensation and benefits for a position in an interactive, interdisciplinary working environment, engaged in cutting-edge science, and embedded in a dynamic and international research community. You will receive extensive training in several traditional and cutting-edge neuroscience and mouse-related techniques, placing you in a unique position for your future career.
If you want to join our dynamic research community, we look forward to receiving your application. The position is available immediately for two years with the possibility of extension based on performance.
Please submit your application, including your CV, experience, and the names of 2-3 referees, electronically at www.fmi.ch/opening . Applications will be reviewed continuously.
For further information, please contact Andreas Lüthi ([email protected] ).
