The Department of Biomedicine (DBM) integrates the fundamental and translational research programs of the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and the University Hospital of Basel (USB). Recently an Innovation Focus “Regenerative Surgery" has been established, aiming at developing and clinically implementing innovative, cell-based treatment strategies for cartilage and bone repair in orthopedic, spinal and reconstructive surgery. Within the context of the Innovation Focus the three research groups Tissue Engineering (Prof. Ivan Martin), Cartilage Engineering (Prof. Andrea Barbero) and Bone Regeneration (Prof. Arnaud Scherberich) seek a:
Lab assistant/biomedical scientist for Innovation Focus Regenerative Surgery (level of employment: 80-100%)
- Manufacturing of cell-based medicinal products in accordance with GMP Guidelines
- Writing of research protocols and establishing GMP-compliant documentation
- Validation of new procedures and qualification of new equipment for GMP use
- Management of disposable material for GMP production
- Development of assays (viability, potency, identity, purity) for cell-based medicinal products
- Strong motivation and interest to work in translational research
- Ability to work independently and to take responsibilities within a team
- Consolidated experience in cell culture and standard analytical methods (eg., PCR, cytofluorimetry, ELISA)
- Consolidated experience in working in a GMP environment
- Good command in English, spoken and written (in addition, German an asset)
- High reliability, flexibility and problem-solving attitude
- An inspiring environment involving translation of basic scientific concepts into highly innovative clinical applications
- Working in close interaction with interdisciplinary and internationally competitive teams
