Research assistant position to evaluate the functions of cancer-associated fibroblast in cancer chemoresistance
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.
Cancer Stroma Crosstalk research group led by Kaisa Lehti studies the impact of acellular and cellular tumor microenvironment components and properties in general and context-dependent mechanisms of cancer invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance. We together form a multicultural and dynamic group with many Nordic and other international collaborators.
Your mission
We are looking for a highly motivated and lab-experienced research assistant for the Lehti group. The successful candidate will work within projects that aim to 1) generate proteomic and transcriptomic profiles of cultured patient-derived cancer-associated fibroblasts, and 2) to investigate the impact and mechanisms of cancer-associated fibroblast secretome and related receptor signaling in regulating anti-cancer therapy resistance. The research assistant is expected to have previous experience in experimental performance, collection and analysis of data, and representation of the results. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the research team and international collaborators to achieve scientific goals.
Your profile
An enthusiastic and driven person interested in our area of research and eager to explore the functions of tumor microenvironment in chemoresistance.
Requirements for the position:
- The successful candidate has a collaborative mindset, work productively in a team, and contribute to a good social and work environment in the laboratory.
- The applicant should hold a B.S or M.S in Biomedical Science and have background knowledge in cancer biology.
The candidate must be well familiar with standard molecular and cell biology techniques including:
- Cell culture techniques: primary cell culture and 3D cell culture
- Extracellular matrices
- Cytotoxicity and drug testing assays
- PCR and Western blot
- Immunohistochemistry
- Immunofluorescence
- Image and data analysis
Our research environment is international, and the project involves close collaboration with several other research groups. Therefore, fluency in English, both spoken and written, is a requirement, as are strong social skills. The project also requires meticulous documentation, and the ideal candidate must have a detailed, careful, and well-organized mindset.
Meritorius for the position:
- Previous experience in cancer research and primary cell culture will be considered an advantage.
