Offer Description

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Rydén and Mejhert lab aims to understand how alterations in human white adipocyte function are related to cardiometabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and coronary sclerosis. Our group consists of 15-20 members (senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD/master students, and technical staff) and has all the necessary infrastructure to conduct translational research including a fully equipped preclinical laboratory at NEO and a clinical research unit at the Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge.

Your mission

We have recently discovered that multiple subpopulations of adipocytes reside in human white adipose tissue. However, it is at present unclear if these are transient states or if these cell identities are derived from specific progenitor subpopulations. To address this, we are recruiting a research assistant to work on an advanced project involving lineage tracing. Your mission is to create a cell model to dissect how specific adipocyte progenitor populations contribute to the generation of different fat cell subtypes. You will work in an interdisciplinary team with experts covering all aspects of the project. Your task will be to isolate, and gene edit progenitor cells and subsequently trace their contribution to the growth of fat pads by transplanting these human cells to immunocompromised mice. There will be possibilities to follow-up key findings with wet lab experiments using state-of-the-art methods. The position is for six months but can be extended by six more months pending the completion of the project.

Your profile

The person appointed should have a master’s degree or equivalent. Experience in coding in languages such as R and Python is highly meritorious. It is also a strength if the applicant has experience in common cell and molecular biology approaches, such as cloning and gene editing. It is expected that the candidate should be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently. Good knowledge in English, written and spoken, is a requirement.
