The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven departments within which both research and teaching are conducted. The department is involved in advanced research in both basic and applied research. All departments work in close contact with clinics at Karolinska University Hospital. The department's educational activities contribute to most programs and courses within KI's total educational offerings.

The Department of Clinical Chemistry conducts research to elucidate the molecular basis of cardiometabolic disease by integrating basic science, clinical medicine and translational approaches. Ping Chen research group is dedicated to data-driven research focused on human metabolic diseases, including obesity and non-alcohol related fatty liver disease. The group consists of postdoctoral fellows, PhD students and master students with strong expertise in computational biology.

Currently, the group is looking for a research assistant for a fixed-term position for 12 months (part-time, 80%).

Your mission

As a research assistant, you will focus on bioinformatics work involving analyzing single-cell omics data from the human liver. Additionally, you will participate in mechanistic studies to understand the molecular mechanisms driving non-alcoholic fatty liver disease progression and also in manuscript writing.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a solid background in nutrition and research experience in bioinformatics, particularly in single-cell data integration and machine learning. You should have an in-depth understanding of the role of diet in human health, familiarity with the clinical aspects of diet-related diseases and knowledge of appropriate dietary interventions. You should have obtained, or be close to obtaining, a Master's degree in nutritional science. A good command of spoken and written English is required.

An interdisciplinary background including biology, biochemistry, physiology, psychology, microbiology, genetics, food science, pharmacology and especially bioinformatics - with a focus on machine learning and single-cell microdata analysis - is an advantage.
