Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an experienced Senior Payroll Adviser for a 6-month backfill position in our Payroll team. This role is critical to support and ensure smooth daily payroll operations/services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll administration: Process payroll accurately, resolve issues, and maintain compliance with legislation.
  • Payroll processing and other duties: Provide backup and technical support to the Payroll Team Leader and Payroll Manager, including running main pays, processing taxation, superannuation, relevant pay run reports, and general ledger.
  • Support the Payroll Team Leader and Payroll Manager to ensure accurate reconciliation of payroll accounts to balance sheet, preparation of PAYE and ACC returns, and superannuation scheme requirements.
  • Customer service: Build relationships, respond to queries, and provide clear, helpful explanations.
  • Information management: Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with privacy requirements.

Key Requirements:

  • Extensive payroll processing experience.
  • Good understanding of payroll legislation.
  • Experience with the Ascender payroll system is an advantage.
