EXTERNAL ENGAGEMENT DIVISION Who we are/Ko wai mātou The University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest University and has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. It is also one of New Zealand's largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of $1.6 billion and 3,500 staff based in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Invercargill. The Communications Office manages media relations and key publications for the University, as well as being directly responsible for the University’s flagship social media platforms. This team carries out a diverse range of work within a highly collegial work environment. The role/Te mahi The Internal Communications Adviser role is to produce content written for our undergraduate and postgraduate student communities, and staff. This is a creative role focused on designing meaningful content for our audiences and enhancing relationships within our internal community. In this role you will co-ordinate centralised internal communications activities for the University, including: • Creation of content for our internal publications, including Te Aka Taura, our newsletter for undergraduate students, Te Pānui, our newsletter for postgraduate students and the Otago Bulletin Board. Passion for your work and desire to make a difference are a must. Further details/Pūroko This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position, located in Dunedin. A flexible approach to working hours is necessary due to the 24/7 nature of the media and in emergency situations. Travel outside of Dunedin can be required. We offer a stimulating working environment, competitive salary, five weeks’ annual leave, and a 6.75% superannuation scheme. COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE
• Management of our internal news platforms’ content management systems.
• Support production of weekly communications to staff.
• Design of projects to enhance community engagement.
• Supporting the maintenance of the University’s writing style guide.
• Supporting the planning and training for emergency communications and participating in emergency operations responses.
• Supporting our Social Media team .
• Tertiary level qualification or other recognised qualifications appropriate to the role.
• Professional experience in public relations, journalism, or a business communications role.
• Excellent skills in crafting and producing materials for a range of print and online communications.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate to a high standard.
• High ability to exercise tact and discretion.
