About our team/Mō te tīma

The Marketing Services Department is made up of five teams:
•    Our in-house Creative Services team leads how our brand is presented;
•    Future Student Marketing manages and delivers marketing activities to recruit students;
•    Divisional Marketing Advisers champion the needs of our academics’ subject areas; 
•    The Web Experience team owns the University website and other digital applications;
•    An Events team delivers a wide range of events for students, academics, and alumni.

While each area has its own responsibility to provide expert advice and initiatives to attract students and raise the profile of the University, there will be a large amount of collaboration at a project level.

The Marketing Services Department; who works alongside some of Aotearoa’s leading creative, media and market research agencies; has an exciting year ahead, with core projects including our brand launch, full web transformation, and lofty recruitment goals. The role/Te mahi

As a Divisional Marketing Adviser, you’ll provide strategic marketing advice and partner an academic division (Health Sciences) to develop, manage and produce their marketing strategy and activities. You will also work closely with some of our Corporate, Operational and/or Student Support departments.

You will provide your marketing expertise to support the division and our internal clients within your assigned portfolio/s. This will include liaising with senior stakeholders and academics at all levels within the division and the wider university. 

Analysing trends, student data and insights is key to the role to build clear objectives and strategies. You will then work closely with the wider Marketing Services team and external agencies to plan work streams and deliverables, reimagining how academic offerings can be presented in a relevant and compelling way for tauira. 

You’ll enjoy working closely with our Events and Schools’ Liaison teams in the planning and executing of student recruitment events, attending and representing the university on campus; you may also travel around the country interacting with future students and whānau at careers expo’s.

Your skills and experience/ Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for a qualified, organised, and customer focused marketing professional who has a passion for the University of Otago and its vision.

You will also need to have:
•    Tertiary level qualification, or equivalent experience in a marketing discipline. Education or complex service category experience an advantage.
•    Strong client service/stakeholder management experience and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships is vital.
•    Analytical - experience in data analytics, consumer research and ability to synthesis into workable insights and actions.
•    Proven ability to collaborate effectively – a true team player.
•    Strong project-management skills and the ability to multi-task.
•    Ability to juggle and prioritise urgent vs important.
•    Experience in modern marketing techniques including search, digital and social.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•    Confidence in presenting and interacting with the public.
•    Event and/or experiential experience an advantage.
•    Knowledge of markets, marketing relationships, and networks specific to Māori and/or Pasifika audiences an advantage.
•    An optimistic energy.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) permanent role, located in Dunedin.

We offer competitive salary, 5 weeks’ annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation scheme, and the ability to achieve real work/life balance.
