Full-stack software developer with focus on front-end (m/f/d)

The position has a salary level up to TV-L 13 according to the qualification and is initially limited to 2 years with the perspective to become a permanent position. The position is offered as full time (39.8 hours per week).

SILVA is a well-established and renowned database provides comprehensive quality checked ribosomal RNA reference sequence data and accompanying web services and tools. The datasets are used by thousands of scientists worldwide as a basis for their research.

As a part of the SILVA team, your task will be implementing the redesign of the web front-end and the integration into the new research infrastructure DSMZ Digital Diversity . You will be responsible for migrating, developing, and maintaining the SILVA websites and web applications. This position will primarily focus on front-end work, with occasional backend tasks. The tasks will be completed in close coordination with developers on the SILVA team, as well as developers from other teams at the DSMZ.

Your profile:

  • University degree or several years of professional experience in web development, full-stack development or a comparable discipline
  • Experience in Typescript, HTML, CSS/SASS, and either React or Lit for front-end development
  • Experience in Java, Maven, and Spring Boot 2/3 for backend development
  • Experience in using version control systems (Git) and project management software (OpenProject)
  • Good knowledge of German and English
  • Interest in interdisciplinary work

This position can be located in Bremen or Braunschweig, and is not suitable for fully remote work.

The Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures establishes an integrated suite of scientific databases of fundamental relevance for life sciences. The databases include BRENDA, SILVA, LPSN, BacDive and TYGS which are developed in a highly coordinated manner. A dedicated team of 22 scientists and software engineers creates a research data infrastructure which will significantly improve the access to curated and standardized biological data. The resulting data platform DSMZ Digital Diversity will provide an integrated resource and will allow to link and comprehensively analyze the different types of scientific data from all domains of life sciences.
