The Max Planck Society (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V.) is a world-leading, independent, non-profit research organization with the goal to promote cutting edge basic research. Within 84 Max Planck Institutes over 24,000 employees pursue basic research in broad areas of life and natural sciences as well as humanities, social sciences and law and have a strong interest in innovative and interdisciplinary research areas.
The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry is inviting expressions of interest or nominations for
Directors of a Scientific Department
The 10 departments and the research groups at the MPIB work in areas including biochemistry, structural biology, computational biology, cell biology, biophysics and molecular medicine.
We are seeking candidates performing groundbreaking research into the molecular mechanisms of fundamental biological problems or in technology development that complements our portfolio of basic research. We are particularly interested in candidates working in areas including fundamental cellular processes, the application of chemical biology to understand biological mechanisms, structural or cellular systems biology, molecular medicine with a relevance to immunology or disease or applications of AI to basic biological research. These examples are by no means exclusive. Potential candidates could be biologists, biochemists, chemists, physicists, computational biologists or medical practitioners with a focus on basic research.
The position is equivalent to that of a tenured, full professorship devoted entirely to research. The offer includes a highly competitive package with substantial, long-term core funding and lab space. The Max Planck Society is Germany’s most successful research organization.
We encourage expressions of interest from, or nominations of, candidates with a strong track record and several years of experience as principal investigators.
The Max Planck Society, an equal opportunity employer, is committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of recruiting and employment and aiming at increasing the percentage of women among its scientific leadership, particularly at the director and group leader level, and therefore strongly encourages expressions of interest from, or nominations of, qualified female scientists.
Please send expressions of interest or nominations by June 9, 2024, via e-mail: [email protected] .
For expressions of interest, please send:
- a CV,
- list of publications,
- 1 page of research achievements and
