Position Summary
The Legacy for Airway Health (LAH) is an exciting initiative rooted in research that embraces principles of individual and community engagement, and breaking silos between academic groups and those in-the-trenches of patient care and public health, so that knowledge is generated and translated most effectively. By accelerating the creation and leveraging of knowledge to inform improvements in prevention and care of populations at risk for, and living with, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Based within the Centre for Lung Health (CLH) at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and powerfully elevated by broad partnerships, LAH leverages already well-established and globally respected clinical research and care programs at the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), its affiliated hospitals, the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU). Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), VGH&UBC Hospital Foundation, and the VGH and UBC Divisions of Respiratory Medicine are key partners of LAH and collectively inform and enrich its direction.
We are seeking a Research Associate (RA) to join our expanding team for research related to our prevention and care goals. The RA will contribute critically to LAH’s ambitious and innovative research and implementation agenda that will transform complex data into meaningful and personalized approaches to truly change the course of prevention and care of asthma and COPD in our community. This is a 1 year position with the possibility for renewal. Start date is expected to be May 1st 2024. The position will report to the Director and will be based at the VGH campus of UBC.
The individual will work independently but within a team of patients, researchers and other partners on projects related to knowledge creation and implementation science related to changes in policy, practice and/or behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
Leading, overseeing and/or participating in research and implementation science projects related to asthma and COPD prevention and care;
Staying updated on literature on emerging interventions and models of care for asthma and COPD;
Performing literature and systematic reviews related to the care and improvement of the quality of life of people living with asthma and COPD;
Coordinating and developing grant applications;
Developing reports and manuscripts for publication;
Preparing and delivering presentations for research meetings;
Leading and participating in community and partner engagement meetings;
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including knowledge users that include patients, people at risk and partners responsible for implementation of research findings into clinical practice and policy change;
Preparing background documents for stakeholder meetings;
Coordinating research activities and (co-) chairing research team meetings;
Mentoring and supervising junior researchers and staff;
Providing other support as required to LAH researchers and team
Qualifications
Ph.D in a health related field
Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
At least 1 year of post-doctoral level research experience and publication record commensurate with experience
Passion for impact-focussed research
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to prepare reports and presentations for diverse audiences
Experience with manuscript writing
Experience in developing grant applications
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong work ethic, high degree of initiative and self-motivation
Thrives in dynamic, high-pressure environments
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
