Your opportunity:

Advancement Communications and Marketing (ACM) at DUA provides strategic planning, creative development and production support for central anddivisional fundraising and alumni relations activities. We hire outstanding people from a variety of backgrounds and currently seek a Digital Designer to join our diverse group of talent.

Under the general supervision of the Executive Creative Director, Integrated Marketing and Communications, the Digital Designer is responsible for design standards and brand adherence of all digital properties managed by Advancement Communications and Marketing. The Digital Designer is responsible for ensuring the Division of University Advancement owned websites are maintaining best practice for user experience and accessibility. In addition, the Digital Designer works to execute creative digital materials, this includes but is not limited to design of newweb sites, updates and enhancements to existing websites, social media content creation, email template design, digital ad design, animations and general image editing.

As an integral part of the Advancement Communications and Marketing team, the incumbent is responsible for consulting and guiding other creative team members in best practice for web design, usability and accessibility standards. In addition, the incumbent works closely with website managers, other designers, writers, program managers and program coordinators from across the University to provide guidance and advice on digital best practices. Ability to work closely with a team, provide expertise and guidance, as well as execute work is an integral part of this position.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining websites; develop wireframes, user flows, site map and design for the creation of new websites and digital properties
  • Creating and editingweb pages with interactive media
  • Customizing website according to objectives or user feedback
  • Designing graphic elements for digital and online media; design digital assets for Advancement Communications and Marketing project deliverables
  • Liaising with colleagues to encourage the use of best practice and consistent brand message, functional requirements and technical/infrastructure requirements
  • Advising on appropriate techniques and/or technologies for content delivery andensure content is dynamic, engaging and current.
  • Verifying that content is consistent with brand identity guidelines

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years in website design and digital media design.
  • Must have experience in designing new websites from beginning to end including developing the user experience and site architecture.
  • Must be able to workclosely with project managers and web developers to understand digital project goals and execute design accordingly.
  • Experience providing ongoing digital design support for existing digital properties, including facilitating design refresh updates and regular day-to-day design requirements (i.e. image resizing and web banner design).
  • Must have experience with email design, working on developing email templates that align with content requirements, responsive email formats and brand standards.
  • Experience designing content for social channels including rich media is an asset.
  • Must be comfortable presenting designs to key stakeholders internally and across the University.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and CMS functionalities is a strong asset with ability to develop and post new design updates on existing CMS’s.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (advanced level in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Formal training and deep understanding of design and graphic principles.
  • Working knowledge and experience with HTML/XHTML, CSS, and CMS functionally. Knowledge of Google Analytics as it applies to website design and on-going maintenance.
  • Demonstrated web design skills, including layout, typography, graphic design principles and colour theory, is required.
  • Clear understanding of how design translates to code and formal handover of design to web developers. Deep understanding of website usability and user experience principles.
  • Knowledge and experience applying usability and accessible web design practices. Knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies and tactics
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with the latest in web trends, techniques and technologies
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to explain technical concepts to laypersons.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and ability to pick up new techniques or programs; strong multi-tasking skills; willingness and ability to work with various software and to upgrade web page management skills and technology on an ongoing basis. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work independently and as a team member and attention to detail and deadlines.

USW Pay Band 12 -- $78,308 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,144. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
