YOUR TASKS

 

  • You design and execute experiments that use droplet-based microfluidics in order to probe bacterial interactions at a single-cell level
  • You interpret experimental results within the broader context of microbial ecology
  • Based on data gathered in the project ‘Microbial interactions in hydrogen-oxidizing communities’ as well as data collected during your tenure you analyse the role of hydrogen and hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria in mixed communities
  • You formulate and document your findings in a scientific article.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

We seek a highly motivated and skilled individual who meets the following criteria:

  • You hold a Master’s degree or thesis based doctorate in bioscience engineering
  • You have intimate knowledge of microbial ecology
  • You are proficient in the field of droplet-based microfluidics and they can apply this knowledge in the lab – i.e. operating a microfluidic station, designing and producing microfluidic chips, designing and accurately executing droplet experiments
  • You have proven experience in safely handling hydrogen and conducting experiments under anaerobic conditions to grow pure cultures
  • You have proven experience in conducting experiments using synthetic bacterial communities
  • You are adept at integrating complex data into meaningful scientific conclusions.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

 

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 01/06/2024 - 31/12/2024.
  • Your contract will start on 1/06/2024 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales .
