Offer Description

We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to drive development of innovative machine learning/AI strategies for the analysis of large and highly-dimensional biomedical/biological datasets. In this role, you will design novel algorithms, benchmark them against state-of-the-art alternative methods and collaborate closely with our interdisciplinary team of data scientists, technologists and experimentalists. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to expand your expertise, advance your research profile in AI research/computational biology, and make meaningful contributions to the field with far-reaching implications.

  • Conceptualise novel algorithms for the analysis of spatial (multi-)omics data and their biological or biomedical application. 
  • Develop the analysis strategy for cutting-edge, novel technologies as part of the interdisciplinary Innovation Lab. 
  • Troubleshoot and optimize analyses to ensure a high level of quality and reliability of generated results. 
  • Horizon scanning and implementation of novel neural network architectures/models. 
  • Interface with national/international partners in academia and industry to develop customized analysis pipelines.
  • Be co-responsible for the successful completion and timely delivery of project milestones. 
  • Collaborate with the team to translate technical and biological insights into compelling grant applications. 
  • Report and communicate progress in meetings, publish scientific articles, and participate in international conferences.

Initially, we offer a 2-year postdoctoral position with the possibility to extend the contract. Eligibility criteria
  • PhD in data science-adjacent fields (bioinformatics, computer science, AI, biostatistics, bioengineering, biotechnology) with a strong publication record.
  • Experience with bioinformatic analyses (transcriptomics, proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, etc.). 
  • Experience with implementation and benchmarking of deep neural network architectures/classical machine learning data analysis strategies.
  • Experience with PyTorch and high-performance compute environments.
  • Experience with single-cell and/or spatial biology technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-modal data analysis, representation learning and/or computer vision are a plus.
  • Experience with troubleshooting.
  • Genuine interest and commitment to technology development and innovation.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently together with a creative problem-solving mentality.
