About the opportunity
Southern Cross University is seeking a Research Project Officer to support the Birthing on Country project, as part of the iSISTAQUIT Campaign . This project aims to develop a Birthing on Country plan, to revitalise Indigenous knowledge and practices of traditional birthing on country, to co-develop augmented iSISTAQUIT resources and to provide an educational pathway for undergraduate midwifery students.
Working closely with the Project Manager, the Research Project Officer will be responsible for undertaking research-related and administrative activities to support the small and agile team behind this project. Core responsibilities will include:
- Provide research support such as completing ethics applications and analysing and preparing data in the development of grant applications, reports and scholarly articles.
- Provide administration supportin attending required research meetings, taking minutes, organising travel and other administrative duties that support the delivery of the project.
- Provide project support across multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, such as members of the research team and staff at partnering health services.
About you
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and organised individual with a keen awareness of empathy and sensitivity to ensure the cultural safety and well-being of our participants are upheld. More specifically, you will have:
- Understanding of qualitative research methods including analysis, coupled with strong skills in understanding and critiquing the quality of published research studies.
- Demonstrated research writing skills, including an ability to locate, evaluate, compile, and edit relevant literature and research data.
- Ability to work autonomously, exercising initiative with regards to decision making and problem solving.
- Demonstrated experience working in Indigenous settings or in Indigenous health research or cross-cultural projects will be viewed favourably but not essential.

- Located on Yugambeh Country (Gold Coast campus)
- HEW Level 5. Prorated, the base salary ranges from $46,135 - $51,267 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $59,982.
