Offer Description
  • Lead a $1M annual project focused on broad-acre cropping, driving solution-driven communications, promoting sustainable farming practices.
  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders and manage a dynamic communications and extension team, having national impact assisting farmers to increase productivity by reducing weed incursions.
  • Level 9, full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 12 months with commencement in July 2024 or as soon as possible
  • Base salary range: $123,330 - $130,504 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

About the team

The UWA School of Agriculture and Environment is in one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. Surrounded by a wealth of agricultural, natural, and mining resources, our location allows us to produce innovative research with worldwide application.

WeedSmart is a national extension project targeting farmers and agronomists with solution-driven messages to encourage the adoption of diverse farming practices to combat crop weeds.  The WeedSmart Perth-based team are members of The Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (AHRI) - a research group supported by Grains Research & Development Corporation and The University of WA. AHRI works to develop programs targeting crop weeds and herbicide resistance, investigating molecular and agronomic solutions to produce more crop and fewer weeds.

About the opportunity

As a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager, you will oversee the efficient functioning of the WeedSmart project. This pivotal role involves planning, coordinating, and resource allocation, ensuring the success of this project’s initiatives. You will lead Advisory and Annual General Meetings, maintain relationships with existing financial and in-kind research partners, and actively seek new partnerships. Knowledge and experience in the broadacre agricultural industry will assist you to collaborate with industry and research stakeholders and guide the strategic direction of national outcomes.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, demonstrating a sophisticated insight into a wide range of roles, relationships, behaviours, attitudes and motives, and an ability to motivate, persuade and negotiate to achieve strategic and operational objectives
  • Substantial relevant marketing, communications, and publicity experience with high-level skills in initiating and delivering engaging digital media and in-person events
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage complex financial and human resources to achieve strategic and operational objectives
  • Proven ability to plan and act at both strategic and operational levels
  • A demonstrated ability to provide leadership to staff and a commitment to providing an environment of respect, collaboration, teamwork, and accountability to facilitate staff well-being and professional aspirations
  • High level of conceptual and analytical skills with a successful record of addressing identified problems and identifying and applying innovative and practical solutions
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the Australian broadacre cropping industry.

Note: Provision of a Current “C” class driver’s license will be required for the successful applicant.
